About Janet Davis Acoustic Music
Janet Davis is an author of music instructional books and a renowned music teacher. She formed the Janet Davis Music Company in 1976 as a way to provide her students with instruments.
Music was always an integral part of her family life. She was born and raised in Houston, Texas, and though her formal musical training was primarily in the classical field, she showed a keen, early interest in stringed instruments, particularly those involved in folk and bluegrass music. In college, she played the guitar and sang as a folk and blues musician in Austin, Texas clubs, learning from such greats as Lightnin' Hopkins, Janis Joplin and others who played the same venues.
Janet is equally adept on both Dobro® and 5-string banjo. Her books are popular worldwide. She has written numerous best selling books for the 5-string banjo as well as Dobro®. Mel Bay has several of her books listed as Best Sellers. Janet also teaches and plays ALL bluegrass instruments and several others. She has been a columnist with Banjo Newsletter since 1978. Janet's music company celebrated its 35th Anniversary in 2011.
In late 2011 Janet shifted her focus more fully to writing books and teaching, selling the assets of her music company to the Thompson family, who now operate as Janet Davis Acoustic Music. Andrew Thompson is the new musical force behind the business.
He is a classically trained musician with a Masters degree in Music from the University of Arkansas.
He runs a Salsa band that's in high demand and is a member of the Symphony of Northern Arkansas.
He's never met a stringed instrument he didn't like.
The new company will continue Janet's support to the bluegrass community with the finest instruments and professional service.
