Comparison between the Goodtimes Special and the Gold Tone BG250 Models

The Goodtime Special is a good sounding banjo, and very easy to play. It is a natural unstained maple, so is a bit rugged in appearance, but it also has "character." It is a great first banjo, and would make a super 2nd banjo someday for travel, etc.

The Gold Tone BG250 is also an excellent sounding banjo. This banjo has the traditional dark stain & a shiny lacquer finish. The resonator can easily be removed to play this banjo as an openback banjo, also. It is not as stable as the BG250F, however, which as a full one-piece flange. The resonator attaches to the BG250 with 4 t-plates, rather than a 1-piece flange.

The Gold Tone BG250F is a fuller sounding banjo than the BG250, and is also very easy to play. The larger resonator and flange contribute to the tone quality. This is a more traditional bluegrass banjo, which is excellent for the 3-finger style of picking. It also has the traditional dark, shiny finish of most of the professional banjos.
